The literary genre of the pastoral eclogue, as exemplified in Virgil's Bucolics , typically deals with shepherds and country life in an idealized, tranquil setting. This eclogue features Philenus, Grottolus, Tirsi, and Lilla as its protagonists. Two multi-stanza Canzoni follow.
