Specialist Notes
First edition of a very rare comedy , discovered in anonymous manuscript, according to the letter from Benedetto Busini to Filippo Giunti, which precedes the text. It is believed to be the work of Busini himself, or, more properly, attributed to Gelli. Set in Florence, it consists of a prologue and five acts. It follows the format of a love affair, with very licentious overtones; curiously, the beautiful Polifila, daughter of one of the protagonists, after whom the comedy is named, is not among its characters. A fine copy (a few small stains, bottom corner of the last blank f. restored).
