Florence, Giuseppe Tofani, 1808. Large folio. Volume I, "Journey through Lower and Upper Egypt illustrated following the traces and drawings of Mr. Denon," with text and browning. Volume II, "Plates relating to the journey through Lower and Upper Egypt following the traces and drawings of Mr. Denon," contains 6 plates labeled with letters (ag), followed by 144 engraved plates, some occasional foxing, and several browned plates. Contemporary brown half-leather binding with gold-stamped decorations and a red morocco label with the title and author on the spine. Scuffs and small losses on the spine.
Specialist Notes
First and only Italian edition of this famous work dedicated to the Egypt of the Pharaohs, whose first French edition dates back to 1802. The Italian edition was edited by Abbot Francesco Fontani, librarian of the Riccardiana Library in Florence and a renowned author.
