"This rare work contains the first appearance in print of Milton's private letters as well as his earliest writing, the 'Cambridge Prolusions,' written when he was a student" (Wickenheiser, p. 99).
"Shortly before his death, Milton assembled and prepared for print a collection of his private correspondence in Latin, dating from the 1620s, with friends, pupils, and acquaintances, both in England and in the humanist community of continental Europe. The letters demonstrate the eloquence of his less public neo-Latin" (Corns, pp. 111-112, translated).
