Information
A substantial group of autographed and typewritten letters, all signed, addressed by Julius Evola (1898-1974) to Boris De Rachewiltz (1926-1997), an Italian Egyptologist, archaeologist and ethnologist, husband of Mary Pound, the daughter of the poet and writer Ezra Pound. The UNPUBLISHED correspondence spans the period between 1958 and 1967 and includes 5 postcards and 38 letters, often written on two sides, 290 x 210 mm.
Specialist Notes
These are dense and intense exchanges, those collected in this group of letters. Exchanges in which Evola engages with the young thirty-year-old who is no longer a novice but still a scholar in training. They talk about reviews, upcoming books, publications in magazines, exchanges of volumes and impressions of them. The privileged field of their conversations is obviously esotericism, a sector of study and research that has involved both of them for some time. Among the publishers with whom they maintain fruitful relationships is also Scheiwiller, and they often talk about him in connection with upcoming editions and other editorial projects. In a letter in German addressed to Prof. Walter Heinrich, Evola introduces De Rachelwitz as an Egyptologist with esoteric interests, urging him to admit him to their next meeting. A little further on he mentions his work Cavalcare la tigre recently published by Scheiwiller. Interesting are the references to his career as a painter contained in a letter of 30 January 1963: "To tell the truth, the prospect does not excite me much, not caring too much about a posthumous evaluation as a painter ". Later he reiterates that he has "no personal interest [in] being valorised or discovered in such a place". Curious are the frequent references to seasoned and well-smoked salami (Landjaeger) that he should send to him in Rome from Merano, where De Rachelwitz lives.
