Paris: FL Schmied, 1927. In 4°, 305 x 253mm., number 48 of 170 copies, signed by the artist, pochoir decoration and illustrations by Schmied, loose as per edition in original printed fascicles, SPLENDID BINDING SIGNED ALIX, famous bookbinder of rue Saint-André des Arts, active since 1948 and elected “meilleur ouvrier de France” in 1949, brown morocco with geometric leather inlays in various colours, finely and richly decorated spine.
The culmination of the art deco book production of one of the most important book artists of the century . Mardrus (1868-1949), a Frenchman born in Cairo, translated many Arabic works into French, including the most famous One Thousand and One Nights; this text in particular was composed by Mardrus in oriental style and accompanied by beautiful illustrations by Schmied.
