Specialist Notes
The Pirocorvetta Magenta, of the fleet of the Italian Royal Navy, made an epic journey around the globe between 1865 and 1867 led by Captain Vittorio Arminjon with the aim of establishing diplomatic relations and carrying out naturalistic studies. It was precisely during the stop in Japan in the months of July and August 1866 that the first treaty of friendship and trade between Italy and Japan was signed.
