Specialist Notes
Work I: In Venice the training of notaries took place only through apprenticeship, a necessary path because the Republic did not provide schools in this field. In 1538, a teaching of ars notarie was established in Venice, but for the exclusive benefit of the members of the chancellery [Pedani, 61]. Only in 1632 did the Senate regulate the methods of apprenticeship with a law. The maximum interest of the Venetian Republic in this field occurred in the mid-18th century, when the Conservatives of the Laws commissioned their tax lawyer, Giovanni Pedrinelli, to collect in a text the legislation on notaries and, with brief explanations, the formulas of the various types of acts. The work "The notary educated in his ministry" was born, which the Conservators ordered all notaries to purchase.
