Information
Paper manuscript in 8°, 188x128 mm., full vellum coeval with handwritten title on the spine, small circles, light signs of use, some stains, pp. (2), 1268, printed frontispiece with handwritten title in a richly decorated frame with the typographer's data below (Romae: Typis Mascardi, 1641), text in Latin.
Specialist Notes
Full-bodied and interesting manuscript on legal matters (the famous Justinian institutions): a valuable study copy, probably written at the end of the 1600s.
The volume, even if without signature and ownership inscription, almost certainly comes from a private collection of the heirs of the Romanelli family (a noble family in the province of Rome, of landowners, priests, lawyers and property managers), perhaps attributable to Pietro Angelo Romanelli (Domino Petro Angelo de Romanellis) as the handwriting of the text and the binding of the book are similar to those of another autograph manuscript by Romanelli.
