Paris, Libraire Gènérale de l'Architecture, 1877. In foil. The work consists of ten files, each containing ten plates for a total of 100 plates (cm. 42 x 29) printed in color lithograph and retouched in watercolour, depicting precious fabrics in silk, velvet, brocade, damask, etc. . of all ages and all countries. Each plate is accompanied by an explanatory text sheet, which briefly indicates the sources, where the motifs are drawn and the style to which they belong. Loose-leaf copy kept in folder. Publisher's red cloth binding with closing strings, title and artistic gold decoration on the cover, taken from a painting by Hans Holbein.
Specialist Notes
Dupont-Auberville was a legendary fabric collector most of his life; gathered the most important collection of fabrics of all time, which served as the main basis for the creation of this work. It was exhibited in the Musee des Arts Decoratifis in 1880.
