Specialist Notes
First very rare Italian translation of the amusing book published in the same year in Paris under a pseudonym (Baron de l'Empesé).
«Being infinite the variety of characters and talents, ties should also be very varied. Thirty-two different ways of wearing one's tie are represented in this operetta. There is something for every person, whatever fortune they are gifted with, whatever the age, whatever their temperament, and finally for all the conditions and all the circumstances of human life". (p.6).
«Gracious operetta well known to bibliophiles» [Mario Praz, Anglo-Saxon Literary Chronicles III, 349 ]. After the story of its origin, of the use of collars and silk handkerchiefs, there are dozens of pleasant descriptions of knots according to their character, talent, profession, status. A book «which does not require only a day's study, but rather the daily work of a few hours. From what crowd of obscure competitors and unworthy rivals will not the people of grace, the gallant, the elegant and the true fashionables find themselves therefore only freed?» [p. 10].
