Specialist Notes
Giovanni Battista Palatino was the author of the best known and most printed collection of calligraphic models of all time. The first edition was printed in Rome in 1540, many were the editions that followed. Palatino's work came after the writing manuals of Ludovico degli Arrighi and Giovanni Antonio Tagliente, but was distinguished by the quality of the engravings and the quantity of letters represented, testimony of a universal attention to writing, addressed to all types of letters and interested in the graphic developments to which it is susceptible, even regardless of practical use.
