Warm and affectionate post-Christmas greeting. Cosimo di Ferdinando II de 'Medici, known as Cosimo III (Florence, 14 August 1642 - Florence, 31 October 1723), was the penultimate Grand Duke of Tuscany belonging to the Medici dynasty. He reigned for 53 years, from 1670 to 1723. His reign, the longest in the history of Tuscany, was characterized by a strong political and economic decline, punctuated by persecutory campaigns against Jews and against anyone who did not conform to rigid Catholic morality. . On April 17, 1661, he married Margherita Luisa d'Orléans, cousin of Louis XIV.
