Specialist Notes
The book by Sebastiano Erizzo (Venice 1525-1585) defined "... the first to make an epoch in numismatic science, the subject of which was treated more extensively by Erizzo than that which Enea Vico had before him ...". Cfr. Gamba (1380 ). Erizzo, philosopher, man of letters, senator and authoritative member of the Council of Ten of Venice, possessed a rich, specialized and even envied collection of medals in a Venice where collecting lusts were in great vogue. The Discourse is proposed as a treatise on history of the Roman coin of the republican and imperial period.
