Figured front door engraved by Ludovico Mattioli based on a design by Giampietro Zanotti, initials, friezes and woodcut ends, 5 plates in the text engraved in wood, slight reddening and scattered blooms, half leather binding of the time, with author and title imprinted in gold, slight defects.
Specialist Notes
Original edition of the most famous work by the Bolognese writer and historian Pellegrino Antonio Orlandi (1660? 1727). The Abcedario is a very long list of artists whose main biographical data and works performed are reported. A true "ABC" of painting, it was reprinted in 1719 "corrected and increased by many professors and other information concerning painting". The engraved plates show the numbers and marks used by the engravers of the prints.
