Occhietto, frontispiece engraved with two large lateral figures of San Marco and San Teodoro, and in the center, below, the bust of the author, 37 drawings engraved on copper in the text, of which some full-page and 8 double-page, and 8 out-of-text drawings, of which 7 double-page, diagrams, tables and other small geometric drawings in the text, water millstone in the lower margin of the first issues, gap in the white margin of * 6, 2G3-4 partially detached, blooms, light browning, contemporary parchment binding, some slight halos. Signature of belonging to the title page.

Second edition (the first is from 1618) of the first work published by Sardi, general of artillery, born in Rome in 1560 and died after 1639. The first part exposes the universal principles of fortification learned through study and direct observation in many countries, the second illustrates the construction practice, derived above all from Alghisi and Lorini.
