Rare edition of this treatise on military fortifications and city defense strategies by the military architect and engineer Pietro Paolo Floriani (1585-1638). Captain of the imperial army, in 1627 he was appointed deputy castellan of Castel Sant’Angelo and in 1629 he was commissioned to complete the defensive walls of Ferrara. Such was his fame that, fearing new Ottoman attacks, Cardinal Fabio Chigi (future Pope Alexander VII) and Grand Master Antoine de Paule gave him the task of creating the second wall of Valletta in Malta, fortifications still known today. such as Floriana Lines .
