Specialist Notes
This is the FIRST RARE EDITION of the famous Bentivoglio Report . Guido Bentivoglio d'Aragona (Ferrara, 4 October 1577 - Rome, 7 September 1644) was an Italian cardinal, archbishop and historian. At the behest of Pope Paul V he assumed the role of pontifical ambassador first in Flanders (between 1607 and 1615) and then in Paris (from 1616 to 1621). Returning to Rome, he became cardinal with the title of cardinal presbyter of San Giovanni a Porta Latina and was given the task of directing the Holy Inquisition during the trial of Galileo. In the Reports he showed great interest in political issues, presented with a more conceptual and moderate style, so much so that they were considered a work halfway between historiography and the political-diplomatic treatise.
