Rome, Eucharius Silber, 1494. In 4°. 4 parts, dated: I) October 24, 1494; II) November 3, 1494; III-IV) undated. Part V, the final 16 cc., containing Onosander, De optimo imperatore (supplied in facsimile), is missing. Decorated woodcut initials, numerous military tactical diagrams in the text of Part IV ( De instruendis aciebus ), an excellent example in an 18th-century half-parchment and marbled cardboard binding. Old ownership note on the second leaf, modern bibliographical notes on the flyleaves.

Specialist Notes

A valuable second edition of military texts, rare and sought-after. The editor, Giovanni Sulpizio, a Roman humanist, is known for his first edition of Vitruvius's De architectura in 1486.
