Piazzola, Luogo delle Vergini, 1687. In 2°. 2 parts in one volume, the first part divided into Books I, II and III, the second divided into Books VI, VII and VIII. Each of the 6 parts has its own title page and large woodcut printer's device, ornate woodcut initials and endpapers, numerous full- and double-page copper-engraved plates, the two architectural frontispieces at the beginning of each of the 2 parts are missing, wormholes touching the text at the bottom of the first 4 leaves, a tear repaired without loss on leaf N3 of the second part, small wormholes in the white margin of the last quires, some foxing, 18th-century half-leather binding, marbled cardboard boards, 5-ribbed spine with gilt-stamped flowers in the compartments, label with author and title, red sprayed edges, abrasions and a few wormholes on the spine.

Specialist Notes

Second edition of this famous work. Only six of the ten books Scamozzi planned were completed: the first on the general principles of architecture, the second on cities, the third on private buildings, the sixth on the five orders, and the seventh and eighth, which describe construction materials and techniques.
