Specialist Notes
A splendid and rare guide to Brescia, considered one of the essential sources for the artistic history of Brescia in the 18th century. The work systematically describes all the city's churches and religious and secular institutions, illustrating their pictorial and sculptural cycles. It is notable for its valuable forty-page appendix documenting seven important private collections: including those of Cardinal Bishop Giovanni Molino, the Maffei family, Palazzo Uggeri, and Palazzo Conti-Avogadri. The illustrations are engraved by the author himself. This copy belonged to Countess Paola Trotti Taverna, wife of Senator Carlo Taverna, a member of one of Milan's oldest and most prestigious families.
