Specialist Notes
Work I: A rare first Italian edition of one of Oscar Wilde's (1854-1900) most visionary poems, embellished with elegant illustrations by the celebrated Milanese designer Gio Ponti. The Italian translation is by Alessandro Chiavolini, also known for translating authors such as Anatole France, Pierre Louÿs, and Rudyard Kipling. The volume met with considerable public acclaim, so much so that a second printing was issued in 1923, the final year of the publishing house Modernissima, founded in 1919 by Icilio Bianchi.
