A long letter sent from the Netherlands to Maria Antonietta Paolini. Maria Montessori's connection with the Netherlands dates back to the 1920s. In 1929, she founded the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) in Amsterdam, which would become the principal organization for the protection and promotion of her work. After the break with the fascist regime and the closure of Montessori schools in Italy, the Netherlands became the center of her international activities. After World War II, she organized training courses and conferences there, contributing to the worldwide diffusion of the method. She spent the last years of her life in the Netherlands, where she died in 1952 in Noordwijk. Amsterdam still hosts the headquarters of the AMI, the custodian of her educational legacy.
