A curious large-format volume, 315 x 235 mm, containing over 500 pages of detailed descriptions of London's monuments and historic sites: Stepney Church, Greenwich Hospital, the House of the Black Prince, etc. The text pages contain printed engravings alternating with pages with applied engravings, in an order that does not appear logical or sequential. The result is a kaleidoscopic journey through mid-nineteenth-century London , including portraits of illustrious figures, church and palace interiors, facades, elevations, views, etc. Contemporary calf binding with blind embossing on the covers, worn, with the leather missing, especially on the spine. John Rhodes and Fairfax Rhodes Library bookplate on the inside cover.
