Specialist Notes

Johann Georg Ritter von Zimmermann (Giangiorgio Zimmermann) was a Swiss physician, philosopher, and writer, a leading figure in the Enlightenment. Educated in Göttingen and active in Switzerland and Germany, he was court physician in Hanover and treated, among others, Frederick II of Prussia. His work combines philosophical reflection, pre-Romantic sensibility, and medical-scientific interest.
