Specialist Notes
SUMMA OF MEDICAL THOUGHT TRANSLATED INTO LATIN FOR THE FIRST TIME
This is a Latin printed translation of the great medical compendium Aëtii Amideni Libri XVI, produced in the context of Humanism and the revival of Greco-Byzantine medical studies in Europe. The text collects the sixteen books of the medical compilation by Aëtius of Amida, a physician active at the Byzantine court (6th century). His work is an encyclopedic summa of ancient medicine, drawing extensively on Galen, Hippocrates, and other classical authors now partly lost.
