Information
Extremely rare grey/blue fabric identification bracelet/band for the " OPEN CITY of ROME / MILITARY JUSTICE "
Slight discoloration, missing one lace, in good overall condition
Official circular stamp of the Open City command, and serial number 06886 (or similar). The band has fabric strings at the ends to tie it around the arm.
This armband is an exceptional material document relating to the OPEN CITY OF ROME period (September 10, 1943 – June 4, 1944), when Rome was declared an "open city" by the Italian authorities to prevent its destruction during the war. During the subsequent German occupation, the military and civilian authorities operating in Rome issued identifying armbands/bracelets to the employees of the various corps and agencies.
The wording "GIUSTIZIA MILITARE" identifies the military judicial body personnel who operated in the city during the occupation. This lot complements the famous yellow and red "CITTÀ APERTA di ROMA / POLIZIA" bracelet.
