Information
Personal data sheet of Filippo Turati, used for the collaborators of the newspaper " Avanti!" with autograph signature
One of the most important leaders of socialism, and among the founders, in 1892, of the Italian Socialist Party .
A four-page spread with the headline "Avanti!" (Next!). Socialist Party newspaper. Milan.
Original photo by Filippo Turati applied and some information handwritten by him on this card.
Among the data compiled: surname and name, paternity and maternity status, place and date of birth, profession (Turati describes himself as a publicist); diplomas and degrees (Law, lawyer), political and trade union positions (he writes: Member of Parliament and similar).
In the last part, Completed Works and Similar Works , Turati ironically writes " I prefer to let others fill in the blanks ." His autograph signature follows.
The story of the Avanti! newspaper headquarters is well-known. The first significant action carried out by the fascist squads was the attack on the socialist newspaper on April 15, 1919. This attack followed clashes between fascists, former officers, and Arditi (Arditi) against left-wing activists on Via Mercanti, just three weeks after the founding of the Fasci di Combattimento. The newspaper headquarters was burned and its archives looted.
