Information

Typewritten letter addressed to Giuseppe Bastianini , secretary of the Fasci abroad, dated Paris-10 November 1923, regarding the situation of Italians in France .

" After a month in France, I am able to provide you with some information that I believe will be extremely useful for your work of organizing and politically protecting national elements abroad. Everything I will objectively present to you is not a summary of hasty and superficial impressions, but the fruit of a thorough investigation I have conducted in every field, with the aim of gaining a precise understanding of the situation and studying the best measures to put an end to a state of affairs that is extremely damaging to our national prestige. I have not failed to share these considerations with Bonservizi, the PNF delegate for France, with whom I have proceeded and continue to proceed in full agreement and who fully shares my point of view. ... "

In his report, Curzio Malaparte continues by describing the difficulties of action due to the opposition of the French Freemasons, both democratic and radical, the clearly communist Confederation Generale du Travail Unitaire, and "... by the Italian exiles who do not miss any pretext or opportunity to fight the fascist elements, even physically... " while underlining, however, that "... it is not at all true that Alceste de Ambris and Campolonghi are carrying out anti-fascist work... "

A very interesting 9-page report, concluded with "... I am determined to go all the way in this work of propaganda and approach, with the aim of creating, to the extent possible, strong and broad organizations for the political protection of our workers in France ... for the interests of the Fascist Government and of Fascism ..."

Signed at the bottom of the last page, in autograph, GIORGIO SUCKERT (at the Italian Embassy - Rue Varenne 50 - Paris)
Sheets with creases at the corners, signs of oxidation from the use of metal staples, in general good condition

(Referring to Nicola Bonservizi, mentioned in the report, he was the promoter of the first Fascio in Paris in 1922, a foreign correspondent for Il Popolo d'Italia and the Italian daily L'Italie Nouvelle ("The New Italy"). He was assassinated in 1924 by the Italian anarchist Ernesto Bonomini. Malaparte was entrusted with telling investigators that Matteotti's kidnapping had been carried out to interrogate the Socialist MP about the murder of Nicola Bonservizi, whom Fascist circles suspected of instigating the murder. Malaparte presented himself to the police, as an inspector in charge of the Party, on September 24, 1924, supporting this version. - ed. - The pseudonym MALAPARTE, which he used from 1925, was invented by him as a humorous nickname based on the surname "Bonaparte").
