The painting is accompanied by a letter from Professor Eduard A. Safarik dated January 19 2008 (a copy is available).
In support of the attribution to the Dutch painter (born in The Hague around 1630), who was active in Italy between Venice and Rome and in Vienna, where he probably died after 1663, the scholar mentions a Mountainous Landscape with a bridge by Hans de Jode, preserved in the National Gallery in Prague; this latter painting features the same framing and has a similar format, narrow and long, perhaps indicating the same original destination as an overdoor.
