Information
The painting is accompanied by a letter from Professor Giancarlo Sestieri, dated Rome, February 3 2017 (a copy is available). According to the scholar, the painting is "a representative and typical example" of the style of Francesco Fidanza, a distinguished exponent of idealized vedutism, initiated by Claude-Joseph Vernet and popularized by Lacroix de Marseille, both active in Italy, between Rome and Naples. Compared to the work of the latter, who were his teachers, Fidanza interprets their inventions by choosing settings at sunset or the first light of dawn, according to a completely new pre-Romantic sensibility.
