height as shown circa 180 cm.
German-style close helmet. With skull made in two halves joined at the centre by rivets, provided with twisted and roped crest, the skull crossed lengthwise by fluted decorations alternating with flat sections. Bellows visor good condition, with moderately pronounced edges and ribbing in the middle. Bever with rebated profile on the lower border that continues the design of the skull at the nape. The lower margin with a roped sliding channel. A flattened part at the chin. Iron plume-holder at the back side. The interior of the helmet has a uniform dark brown patina. Gorget with neckline provided with roped cord. On both the front and back side, two neck plates and another plate ending in a festooned border on the upper side, which matches the decoration with the fluted decoration. The breastplate is strongly rounded, with a rounded profile towards the bottom. It features an almost straight neckline with a beautiful roped cord in relief. Immediately below the border there is a mark, probably that of the armourer (asterisk). The rest of the chestplate surface is worked with slightly ribbed longitudinal fluted decorations, alternating with almost flat bands. On the right side, the folding lance rest. Three-platet backpiece, also worked with longitudinal fluted decorations; the five-plated tassets are all festooned on the upper side, repeating the design of the gorget. The backplate is worked en suite. Large asymmetrical men-at-arms pauldrons provided with upper neck-guard. The right one has a groove to make room for the rest. The cords are always well roped. The larger surfaces are also decorated with bands of grooves, and the back of the pauldrons has a festooned border. Complete brassards with the same type of decoration. Gauntlets decorated with fluted decorations, short cuffs shaped as a truncated cone. Armour with cuissards and knee-cops worked with longitudinal fluted decorations and festooned plate borders, smooth poleyn wings and greaves; festooned and ribbed sabatons. Hemispherical, iron rivets. The leather strings featuring signs of restoration. Some rivets have remains of antique leather strings which are still visible underneath. Most of the armour elements are matching or at least from the same period, perhaps with some 19th-century additions. Preserved on a display mannequin with a minimal, non-raised pedestal. Together with an iron rondache (circa 1600), circular and convex, with a surface worked with radiating fluted decorations converging in the centre alternating with bands with fuller, the swallow-tailed margin with a border featuring a roped cord. In the centre, a beautiful cusp decorated with coils placed on a rosette of delicately shaped and carved iron sheet imitating an open flower bud. Round-headed iron rivets. Four studs worked as petals to secure the support rings on the back. The handles are no longer present. Remains of bituminous paint on the back surface.
