James Tolkan, with his stern gaze and unmistakable voice, left an indelible mark on the collective imagination thanks to his role as Principal Strickland in the "Back to the Future" trilogy. Strickland's character, the principal of Hill Valley High, has become a pop culture icon. His rivalry with Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, has generated some of the funniest and most memorable scenes in the saga. Tolkan perfectly portrayed the role of the gruff principal, meting out hilarious punishments to Marty and becoming one of cinema's most beloved villains.
