Naples, Cannavacciuoli, 1847. 8°. With 49 beautiful engraved plates of Neapolitan figures and views, light foxing, contemporary chagrin binding, blind embossing on the front cover, gilt title on the spine, very light signs of aging. Bookplate on the back cover.
Specialist Notes
First and only edition. This particularly rare copy contains an additional plate, "The Match Seller," not included in the original text but added in pen by a contemporary hand to the index. The plates were engraved by L. Buonocore, a master engraver, who offered a realistic, lively, and yet linear interpretation of Neapolitan folklore.
