Specialist Notes

The edition Ioannis Casae Latina monimenta (Florence, Officina Iuntarum Bernardi filiorum, 1567) is one of the most important posthumous collections of the Latin works of Giovanni Della Casa, edited by the philologist Pietro Vettori.
The work is not a single text, but a collection of Della Casa's Latin writings, organized and arranged by Vettori. It includes: Carmina (Latin poems); Epistole (letters); Orationes (orations, including translations and adaptations of Thucydides); Humanistic Lives: Life of Pietro Bembo and Life of Gasparo Contarini; De officiis inter potentiores et tenuiores amicos (a short moral treatise on social relations between the powerful and the weak); historical and rhetorical sections, including translations of Thucydides.
