Specialist Notes

Praelectiones Marciae sive Commentaria in Thucydidis Historiam seu narrationem de peste Atheniensium (1603) is a Latin work by Fabio Paolini (Fabius Paulinus Utinensis), a Friulian doctor and humanist. This is a collection of university lectures (praelectiones) held in Venice and published in 1603, dedicated to: the Greek text of Thucydides, in particular the famous episode of the plague of Athens (430 BC) with Latin translation and extended commentary The work is not a stand-alone history, but a scholarly commentary that includes Thucydides' Greek text, a facing Latin translation, philological and linguistic analysis, medical observations on the disease, and discussions of the possible causes and symptoms of the plague.
