Specialist Notes
Single edition. Album composed of eight large watercolor lithographs illustrating the monumental carousel that took place in Piazza San Carlo in Turin on April 22, 1842, to celebrate the wedding between Maria Adelaide of Habsburg-Lorraine and Victor Emmanuel of Savoy, then King of Sardinia, but future first King of Italy in 1861. Particularly evocative is the first plate, which depicts a general view of the Carousel, with the royal box on the right and the large temporary amphitheater, set up in the square for the occasion. The other plates depict the various riders (on horseback or on foot), in costume and ceremonial attire.
