Voi date colpi forti al cuore, allo spirito e alla giustizia. Avete ragione. Non dite altro che una grande verità. È tutto semplice! Mio Dio, anch’io ho dell’odio, ma è un odio
contro l’ombra, che si colpisce finché essa ride. Vi stringo con costanza e tenero coraggio, con sicura allegria. Vi applaudo con tutto il cuore, Victor Hugo."

Bellissimo insieme di brevi corrispondenze del grande scrittore, poeta, drammaturgo e politico francese, considerato il padre del Romanticismo in Francia. Sono missive intime e familiari, ma parlano anche di letteratura, di libri ricevuti, di scambi di opinioni culturali. Una diretta testimonianza del genio di uno dei più grandi autori di tutti i tempi. In una in particolare scrive ad un suo confratello e dice di condividerne le idee sulla giustizia che il confratello espone nel suo libro.
