Strasbourg, J. Gothofredum Bauer, 1760. In .4 °. Two parts in 1 vol. Noble coat of arms on the title page, with 7 engraved and folded plates, slow files, a detached, reddened plate and, coeval binding in marbled hardcover, missing spine, worn. Ex libris of Prince de Tayllerand on the counterplate.
Specialist Notes
First edition. of this important story of the early days of document-based printing (reproduced in facsimile in the 7 plates), in which the author presents the example of Gutenberg who had begun his experiments by printing in Strasbourg. The documents were destroyed when the Prussians bombed Strasbourg in 1870.
