Specialist Notes

Luxury edition in copy number 102 imprinted ad personam for Biagio Borriello. MONUMENTAL WORK by Nattini who can be considered one of the most significant Dante's illustrators of the twentieth century. The author, encouraged by D'Annunzio and Francesco Maria Zandrino, secretary of the Ligurian Association of Journalists, dedicated most of his life to the study of Dante, creating one hundred illustrations of the Divine Comedy in twenty years, with the watercolor technique on paper, and at the same time taking care of the publication of the 3 volumes of the Divine Comedy. The large and sumptuous volumes (one for each cantica) were printed in 1939 by the Dante Publishing House in a thousand numbered copies, made with pure rag papers from Fabriano; the typefaces, designed by Nattini himself, are inspired by the "primitive Latin types" and each of the three canticles with a binding in embossed calfskin with & nbsp; peeling, upper plate of Hell partially detached.
