Paris, Clousier, 1781- 86. In 2nd. 5 parts in 4 vols. Title pages with intaglio vignettes, headboards and elegant finely engraved cul de lamps , dedication to Queen Marie Antoinette engraved in copper, 304 engraved copper plates out of the text including 10 geographical maps, in volume I 51 plates of of which 3 folded geographic, in the II volume 83 tables of which 1 folded geographical map and a series of 25 cul de lamps & nbsp; in red and black, in the III volume 64 maps of which 4 are double geographic page, in the 4th volume, 71 tables in the first part, including 2 geographical maps, and 35 in the second part numerous tables in the text from originals by Jaen Honore Fragonard, Hubert Robert, Auvray, Aubry, Desprez, Paris and many others, in the tome IV missing 14 engravings depicting ancient coins and the table of the Phallus on p. 52, some paper with light browning, rare small stains, tear without loss at the outer margin of pag. 257 to volume IV, binding of the time in marbled brown calfskin, back with 7 nerves, to the compartments phytomorphic friezes and pieces in red and green Moroccan with title and number of the volume imprinted in gold, red cuts, peeling, worn corners. / div>

Specialist Notes

First edition. Jean-Claude-Richard Saint-Non (1727-1791), French draftsman and engraver. A great lover of art, he devoted himself to drawing and engraving, perfecting himself in etching and aquatint. Travel to England and Italy, friendship with Fragonard and Hubert Robert led the artist to transcribe sketches and drawings of views and landscapes in aquatint. Back in France, I face the illustration of the Voyage Pittoresque de Naples et de Sicile always etching. Cohen-Ricci 928-930. Brunet V, 55-56: "Un des premiers beaux ouvrages de ce genre qui ait paru en France".
