Specialist Notes

Accurate reprint (1 ed. Basel 1552) of this famous "Manual" of civil and military administration of the late Roman Empire probably written in the fourth century AD. The discussion is divided into two sections, corresponding to the two parts of the empire, East and West, enumerating for each one of them with official titles, officials, prefects, etc. The territorial jurisdiction, the offices or dependent troops and the composition of the Officium are indicated for each. It is therefore a precious picture of the order of the Empire, which offers information on the dislocation of troops, state companies and makes known numerous names of places. The iconographic apparatus is fascinating. & Nbsp; Brunet IV, 111; Ebert 14905; Berlin Katalog 1768.
