A rare and interesting "Custer Range" Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine, about 1880

length 104,7 cm.
22", round barrel, with foresight, with foldaway rear sight numbered up to “15”, 45-70 cal. central fire. Clean bore with visible rifling. Trapdoor breech marked “MODEL 1873” surmounted by an eagle's head on crossed arrows and with inscription “US”. Tang with serial number "410xx". Lock with lock plate marked "US SPRINGFIELD" and engraved with the US eagle. Working mechanism. Walnut, half stock, apparently without visible stamps. Butt plate marked "US" (pitting) with loading gate, three compartments inside. Iron mounts. Single barrel bracket. Stirrup with sling swivel on the left side. Some re-browning. Slight signs of use and time. On the left side of the butt stock there is a brass plate indicating that it belonged to the Seventh Cavalry.
