Cylindrical, 7-1/2‘, 44 cal barrel (clean bore, barely visible rifling) with octagonal base, with low brass front sight, marked ‘- ADDRESS SAM.L COLT NEW YORK CITY -’ ( refreshed?) with reading towards the breech, calibre 44. Smooth six-shot cylinder with rectangular notches, with invisible engravings. The central pin without numbering. WOrking mechanism, yet a little unsteady, three clicks, trigger's safety lock not working. Frame without ‘COLTS PATENT’ marking. Square-type, brass trigger guard. Brass grip bands. Walnut grip without markings, not perfectly fitted. Pitting, signs of use and time. Serial number ‘102xx’ present under the frame, stamped with characters apparently contemporary to the period. Barrel wedge not numbered. On the barrel, cylinder and grip there is a contemporary serial number but in slightly different characters (restamped?). Restorations, including a small removal at the barrel attachment, perhaps to achieve a better fit with the cylinder.
