La villa romana di Monte Mario risale agli anni del pontificato di Sisto IV e fu fatta costruire dal cancelliere perpetuo del Comune Mario Mellini. La villa, che comprendeva un ampio parco con viali alberati, ha subito diversi rifacimenti nel tempo, ma è documentata attraverso i ricordi di illustri ospiti, tra cui Wolfgang Goethe e Stendhal e diverse testimonianze figurative. La suggestione evocata da Fidanza nel suo foglio, offerto in asta, pare ritrovarsi in una fotografia d’epoca con Il Tevere a Ponte Milvio e Villa Mellini all'orizzonte, scattata da James Anderson (prima del 1869 perché non si vede la torre osservatorio di Villa Mellini dove passa il Meridiano di Monte Mario).
