sculpted in the form of a low, squat cylinder with slightly outward-bowing walls and a rounded upper profile; the outer surface imitates the natural texture of wood; decorated with a series of small gold and amber lacquer plaques applied at irregular intervals and set at angles to imitate scattered poem cards, with figurative miniatures or calligraphic inscriptions
