The present painting appears similar to other compositions of the 1920s, united by the presence of elements of furniture or oriental clothes, such as In front of the screen , where even the same screen depicted here appears. The work offered here, however, stands out for the studied accord of complementary colors and the broad and loose brushstrokes, particularly fluid on the braid that gives the title to the work, the subject of a small adolescent drama. The young girl in the center of the canvas, in fact, looks disconsolately at the long braid of hair she has just cut to follow the fashion of the hair era a la garçonne, perhaps regretting the cut. A delicate psychological description of great sensitivity and suggestion is therefore added to the saturated palette and refined painting.
