Finarte’s top lots of 2023 in the Art sectorThe first work comes from the catalogue of the Modern and Contemporary Art auction of 9 November Rain by Jean Fautrier sold at auction for €248,090. Also important was the result for Antonio Ligabue who took second place with two works, the 1960 self-portrait and Cat and Mouse sold for € 223,690. A great comeback for one of the most important Naïf artists of the 20th century.

A very good result also for the Department of Old Master Paintings, which in 2023 saw a 20% increase in adjudications, abundantly exceeding one million sold, and saw two important adjudications: Diogenes and Alexander the Great by Giovanni Battista Langetti and Jan Soens‘ fantastic painting Self-portrait of the painter with his two children (a work won by the Uffizi and exhibited in the Museum of the Self-portrait collection inaugurated on 10 July).

The best result ever with a new Italian record for the Photographs Department with € 1,250,000 sold in 2023. The top lot were 33 prints by Luigi Ghirri, Modena, from the ‘KM 0.250’ series sold at auction for € 37,890. Excellent results also for international authors such as Cindy Sherman, Peter Beard and Gregory Crewdson with his Italian record.

Important results were also achieved in the Original Comic Art Department with the award of Hugo Pratt’s 1965 The Telephone Call for € 31,200, which joined Erik Larsen’s Spider-Man – Revenge of the Sinister Six table awarded in 2021.

All art departments saw strong growth in 2023 in terms of results, confirming the positive trend with sales that show us how collectors always respond with participation to the quality of the works and their historicity. In addition to foreign masters of international standing, our proposal remains open to the search for history and expressiveness, seeking to enhance our artistic cultural heritage and opening ourselves up to collectors and investors who are always interested and challenging.
