The model

Introduced to the public at the Salone di Torino in 1958, the Lancia Flaminia coupé was indeed one of the most exciting and usable Gran Turismos of the 1960s. The Flaminia coupé was one of the few cars of its class capable of performances worthy of a real sports car while retaining superb levels of comfort and refinement. Because of these features, at the time it was regarded as a very well-mannered Gran Turismo, one of the finest gentlemen's motorcars of the 1960s. The first examples were fitted with the 119 hp 2.5l V6 unit which could reach a top speed of 170 km/h. Such engine was later upgraded in 1960 with three twin-barrel Weber carburettors and new air intake, which raised the output to 128 hp and the top speed to 178 km/h. The Lancia Flaminia 3B was equipped with a new triple-barrel carburettor. The last and more powerful upgrade of the Flaminia came in 1962, with the introduction of the new 140 hp 2.8l V6, capable of reaching speeds over 180 km/h. Designed by Pininfarina, it soon became the car of choice among those looking for a fast, elegant and comfortable car to use daily. It was the very first European coupé which had a very similar design to its sedan counterpart, anticipating a trend that became mainstream in the 1960s. Despite having a 12 cm shorter wheelbase, it offered plenty of room for the rear occupants, making it a perfect choice for those rampant gentlemen who preferred to drive their cars rather than being chauffeured around.

The Car

This 1965 Lancia Flaminia coupé 2.8 3B was delivered new to Marcello Mastroianni, the famous Italian actor, who kept it between the May 29th and June 25th of 1965 as shown by the original vehicle registration document and the chronological extract. In 1965, Mastroianni was a very successful actor, starring in films like "Casanova '70", directed by Mario Monicelli, "La decima vittima", directed by Elio Petri, "Oggi, domani, dopodomani", directed by Eduardo De Filippo, Marco Ferreri and Luciano Salce. Also, in 1965, the documentary “Mastroianni. Un casanova dei nostri tempi” was filmed. Indeed, more in-depth research can bring out photographic images of the car and the great actor. A keen Lancista, Mastroianni was one of the icons of the 1960s and one of the most important actors of the time: chassis 1469 was not his first Flaminia as he already owned the gorgeous Zagato-bodied SS chassis *2001* as well as another Touring-bodied Convertible. After staying briefly in the actor's ownership, chassis 1469 was sold to Mr Marino Bisoli, who kept the car until 1970, when he sold it to Mr Giorgio Marchetti, the third owner, who kept it for only three months before selling it to the fourth owner, who retained the Flaminia until 1976. After two further ownership changes, the car was sold in 2005 to the last owner. Still retaining its original tan Connolly leather interior, this Flaminia is treated as one of Marcello Mastroianni’s lovers. The car is equipped with the double set of original keys and the original use and maintenance manual.

State of the art: Unrestored interior, external restoration, mechanical parts in order.
