Information
Primus is one of the rarest and most sought-after Lehmann toys. It was a very expensive toy and only very few examples were produced, which makes it very rare. Its original name was EPL 670 and it was produced between 1913 and 1941.
In the early twentieth century, roller skating became one of the great ‘American exports’ to urban centres all over the world. Berlin was no exception and Lehmann thought of designing a toy that reflected the strong interest in this new sport.
In the early twentieth century, roller skating became one of the great ‘American exports’ to urban centres all over the world. Berlin was no exception and Lehmann thought of designing a toy that reflected the strong interest in this new sport.
Lehmann therefore produced this toy depicting a roller skater. His forward movement was reproduced by means of a spring-loaded operation by repeatedly spreading and closing his legs, simulating the actual movement of skating.
These are some of the reasons why Primus Skater is considered one of the rarest and most sought-after Lehmann toys of all time, certainly one of the most fascinating.
